There's always a line. The tellers all seem like they don't enjoy their job, no one greets, no one smiles, no one talks. You walk in and wait in the line until it's your turn. You wait you 5-10 mins then you leave.

In line waiting as I wrote this review. I posted at 10:19AM. It's now 10:29AM and I'm still waiting.

I am only giving one star because zero is not an option. I have been with this bank when it was Hartford Municipal Employee Federal Credit Union (and it was still just as terrible at that time as well). I have gotten called for fraud and have been questioned about the amount of money I’ve deposited. One employee literally said that I’ve never deposited anything higher than $800 in my account at once and that they needed to “hold it for review,” when that is clearly a lie because I was depositing more than $1000 on a regular. There was one time I was out of town and made a few purchases and they froze my account, but failed to let me know beforehand…so I had no way of getting back home and I was stuck on the street for a week. If I would have never called to ask what was the issue (because I thought maybe it was MY fault) I don’t think they would have called. There was another time my card got stolen (they don’t give out temporary cards here folks) and was used, they sent me two cards and when I let them know that it was their mistake, they denied it as if I would call for a card replacement twice knowing that it would be an issue. I swear they used to be open from 8-5 and now it’s 9-4? So they arrive an hour later and leave an hour earlier. I’ve never seen this place packed as to where they can’t answer the phone and you understand because of the traffic they get inside. Nope. IN FACT, I’ve been INSIDE and have heard the phone ringing and have seen the employees at their stations just standing. I called at 10am a few times during my break for work a couple of years ago and didn’t receive call backs until THE NEXT DAY, really? The whole day went by and no one had time to even leave me a voice message until the NEXT day? I’m sorry, the next day after 3pm when they close at 4pm. They charge for most of the services that they offer, services you can receive at plenty of other banks for free. They are not up to date with technology, so I can’t link my account or card to many services. You deposit a check today and have to wait two business days, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THEY OPEN for them to do it…even when you snap a picture of it to upload. Where most places get it done the same day. I understand it’s small, but it is also a chain with three branches. The owner is focused on the wrong thing because there is no way we as customers should be having these many issues with OUR money. I am a loyal customer and have been with them since about 2016-2017, but that stops now. I am currently waiting for them to deposit a check I took a picture of yesterday hoping that maybe they updated the system and they did not update the system. I called them plenty of times before doing so just to ask and no one answered from 9am-4pm. I left a message after they closed at 4pm and they called me the next day after 12pm. I now have no job because I was relying on that check to get me there. My phone will be off because I was relying on that check to pay for it. My electricity will be shut off on Monday because I was relying on that check to pay for it. A credit union that takes the credit of making life a lot harder for you. Thank you CENCAP for always inconveniencing me. My name is Derek Sutton and once this check clears, I will be closing my account and reminding people through these reviews that you are a terrible place to bank with. Especially after reading another review that stated you caught someone using a fake ID and failed to call law enforcement. Once again this is Derek Sutton.

Terrible customer service! Cencap does shady business and treats their account holders less than! My card stolen and fraudulent charges were allowed to process through. Instead of my money being protected under the LAW and guaranteed through this garbage can of a bank , Cencap has given me the run around with their lies. Because the card is a VISA card they have to go through them when fraud occurs. I was told by both institutions I CAN NOT get my money back becuase the individual used the chip on my card instead of the pin number number. It sounds to me like 1. they did a SHODY job at whatever lack luster investigation they did or 2. They are both scheming business's that NEED to be reported to the highest form of CT law. I advise anyone to not EVER EVER EVER use this incompetent bank. But what really got me was as I was speaking with the teller at the bank, there is another man to the right of me trying to use a stolen ID that belonged to another member to withdrawal money from that persons account. THIS IS AN ID THAT HE STOLE AND CENCAP EMPLOYEES DID NOT CALL THE POLICE AND LET THAT MAN WALK OUT

Worst Bank Ever!! Don't use this bank unless you have no choice. If your info is stolen they don't have 24 hour assistance for customers. You have to wait for the bank to open to report it. They don't give temporary cards if yours is stolen, deactivated, lost. The customer service sucks. Most banks credit your account for fraudulent activity they don't! They make you wait 30 days for your money that someone elae stole. I haven't been able to use my money for seven days because I work and they take a full ten days to send your card. I'm closing my account and don't recommend anyone open an account here.

Been with them since they were the Hartford Municipal Federal Employee Credit Union or something to that effect back in, like '92. Wow, over 30 years right? I was a teen back then. Best EVER...LOVE THEM even when I can't endorse a check, it is what it is. The fees are near to nothing and they are just a life saver compared to most of the banks that bleed you to death with their fees. Even better than Franklin Credit Union on Trumbull St. At first they were just my piggy bank that I could never find because they were so hard to find, but took $20 a week so I could never go broke with them, :)...and they have a notary public, how cool is that. I never knew that. Anyways, they never cease to amaze me and I'm glad I've had them this long, and now that they are Cencap AND have an app....AWESOME SAAAAAAAAUCE, 🙂 Awesome work in progress and I'm forever indebted to this institution. May You last forever, and so sorry to hear the Main street branch had to close. Had to go there when I needed a couple thing like a notary public and ID theft. Too many good, helpful, caring people work there. Thank you so much and I wish you the best of luck in this crazy economy. YOU ARE STILL MY GO TO, 🙂
And they DO have 24 hr service if you lose your card because I've lost mine three times during COVID and they are super awesome. Sure the company's from out of some other area, but they make sure to lock your card so you can't get any funds taken out, :)...and if it's a debit card, so expect money to not be guaranteed when someone uses your Debit card because you were irresponsible. That's what credit cards are for, which I learned the hard way but still grateful. Thank you again to you all, 🙂 You can do NO WRONG BY ME. Dedicated since, I think '92 and you have yet to disapoint me as a credit union and not a bank. Some people are just spoiled and want to go off on you, but trust me you have some true fans because Wachovia, BOA, Even People's United started charging for someone having a debit card!!! REALLY?
ANYWAYS, awesome CREDIT UNION. LOVE YOU FOLKS AND DO NOT WORRY about those who know NOTHING about all the good that you have contributed to your customers, 🙂 Stay SAFE MI GENTE ❤

Worst bank ever ! They never answer their phones ! I’m going to Florida this Tuesday and they decide to wait a week earlier to late my know my card is fraud and blocked it permanently. Now I Don’t know what to do because my new card doesn’t come in exactly in 10 days and they don’t give out temporary cards . HORRIBLE! They need to do better as a bank !!!!

Fantastic Financial Institution. I've done my banking here for the past 5 years. The service is amazing and the staff always bends over backwards to be helpful. If you're looking for a place to do your banking, this is it. Great loans, great credit cards, great service.

I’m not quite sure who is writing these reviews but clearly they’re lying.

On the plus side- I will say that the bank tellers are great. However this review is not for the bank tellers. It’s for the loan officers. One loan officer in particular. Her name is Marjorie. The current rating I’ve chosen perfectly reflects her attitude, her lack of customer service, her unprofessionalism and my confusion as to why this person is still employed with Cencap. Whether it’s on the phone or in person- Marjorie will always be sure to NOT care about anything you have to say. She’s more interested in taking her lunch.

It always amazes me how people like Marjorie have kept their jobs. I know for a fact that I’m not the first person to have to deal with her attitude and her dismissive behavior. Has no one said anything? Are they too afraid? What is the reason behind a lack of complaints for a woman who could not care less when it comes to the customers of Cencap?

I drove all the way to Cencap- which is out of my way- just to sit down for like 5 minutes with Marjorie and have her dismiss everything I ask her. She acted like I WAS INCONVENIENCING her with my presence. I don’t care what happened to make Marjorie act that way- when you are at work, you leave your personal issues at home. That’s like customer service 101.

There are countless homeless individuals who are looking for a break in this world. It’s my recommendation that the hiring team at Cencap give Marjorie’s job to one of them. I’d be willing to bet they’d do a much better job than she has ever done.
